C.G.L.E.T. is owned and operated by Chicago Police Officer and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Matt Giancarlo. Matt has extensive training and experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts back to 2006, along with working the south side of Chicago as a patrol officer since 2018. Throughout the years, he has trained countless officers from agencies throughout the Chicagoland area, and now is bringing his expertise to departments nationwide by teaching multiple courses dedicated to the applications of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the field of Law Enforcement. Matt is an ILETSB approved instructor and the creator of the ILETSB approved "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Law Enforcement" Use of Force course*
*NEMRT course
• Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills give a distinct advantage over hostile subjects that Law Enforcement Officers encounter
• Brazilian Jiu Jitsu allows officers to control and detain individuals without the need for excessive force
• Officers will learn how to control subjects using positional techniques and holds with a lesser risk of injury for all those involved than traditional methods
• Learning techniques taught in this course will give officers the confidence to remain calm during hostile situations, be able to utilize techniques and positions that increase officer safety, and emphasizes on grappling instead of striking, which results in a more gentle approach to control, minimizing a stigma on officer's action
Most importantly, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is PROVEN. There are countless other martial arts and defensive tactics systems implemented by agencies all across the country that have no real evidence to its effectiveness. Anything can look good or practical when demonstrated on a willing-partner, but most hold little to no ground of a working track history. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has made its mark internationally in 1993 at UFC 1, and has been a consistent proven system that has never stopped growing.
